Lately, I’ve been obsessed with cloches. After making one as part of my refashion project with Dame vintage, I became amazed at the versatility of these bell shaped hats. Cloche hats can have a variety of crown and brim shapes, as this gorgeous example by Sydney of Zazu and Violets Hats shows:

I love the asymmetry created by the way the brim turns up in the front, combined with the split in the side. The handmade flower is strikingly elegant in its simplicity. Sydney has been sewing all her life, and making hats for twenty years. Her experience shows through in the attention to detail in this wonderful hat. While the cloche may have gained its popularity in the 1920s, this hat from Zazu and Violets Hats shows that its style is timeless.
